What do I need to know about designing a website

When looking at a website for your business it is good to know that what you see has been build on a principal of five steps:

the domain (this is what you see after the www.[the domain].com and represents you on the Internet
the hosting (this is the company that will store all your files so that your site can be viewed on the Internet). This needs to be considered carefully. Not only for their pricing but also for their support and service packages. Do both of these meet your needs and budget?
the design (this includes all the pages and email setup) This is were the fun begins. This is what states "THIS IS ME" to others.
the marketing (this needs to be considered or else your site will fail). Without marketing a web site is destined to fail. As your designer I will ask you very specific questions about who, what, where, when and how the operations of your business run.
the maintenance (without this your website will not have a high long term success rate) Again just like anything you put out as an advertisement it will require maintenance. This can be as simple as making quarterly text and graphic changes to keep your information fresh to repeating visitors.

The bottom line - how much will it cost me

I unlike many other designers I look at your website as a project of its own. While I do use base figure for items such as photography, stock images, design elements such as database development and template purchases each of these options will add costs into your project.
